BSBWHS308 – Participate in WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control processes: This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to participate in identifying work health and safety (WHS) hazards, conducting risk assessments, and implementing risk controls. It includes involvement in worker consultation and providing support to promote a healthy and safe workplace. The unit applies to individuals who assist in identifying workplace hazards, assessing risks, and controlling WHS risks as part of their WHS responsibilities, in addition to their primary job duties. This ensures they contribute to maintaining a safe work environment while fulfilling their broader role within the organisation.

SISCAQU015 – Test pool water quality: This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to conduct pool water tests and visual inspections, record test data and results, and report any irregularities for corrective action. It applies to public aquatic facilities operated by commercial, not-for-profit, community, and government organisations. While primarily focused on aquatic technical operators, it can also apply to individuals at various responsibility levels, all guided by manufacturer instructions and organisational testing procedures. The skills must be applied in compliance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards, and industry codes of practice to ensure proper water quality and facility safety.

SISCAQU016 – Manage pool water quality: This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to assess pool water maintenance, monitoring, and treatment needs based on operational and regulatory specifications. It includes the ability to monitor test data, conduct ongoing water treatment, and evaluate water quality issues or contamination incidents. The unit also involves responding to these incidents with appropriate corrective chemical treatments. It applies to public aquatic facilities operated by commercial, not-for-profit, community, and government organisations, ensuring proper water quality and safety standards are maintained in compliance with industry regulations and guidelines.

SISCAQU017 – Monitor and maintain aquatic facility plant and equipment: This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to perform periodic and routine inspections of pool and aquatic facility plant and equipment. It includes the ability to conduct minor maintenance tasks, with complex inspections, diagnoses, and repairs referred to specialist technicians. The unit applies to public aquatic facilities operated by commercial, not-for-profit, community, and government organisations. While primarily designed for aquatic technical operators, it can also apply to individuals at various responsibility levels, all of whom are guided by manufacturer instructions and organisational inspection and maintenance schedules to ensure safe and effective facility operations.​⬤

SISXFAC009 – Coordinate facility maintenance: This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to coordinate the maintenance of facility plant and equipment. It focuses on scheduling repairs and maintenance based on facility maintenance plans and equipment specifications, as well as responding to unplanned events. Learners will also develop the ability to monitor, document, and evaluate maintenance activities. The unit is applicable to any sport, fitness, aquatic, or recreation organisation, including commercial, community, and government facilities. It is suited for senior technical and operational staff or managers who work independently, taking responsibility for overseeing maintenance functions and ensuring equipment is operational.

 

This Aquatic Technical Operator course blends prior e-learning modules with a one day face to face workshop at an aquatic venue. This face to face work includes plant room inspection/checklists, water testing,  and post submissions with data collection, evidence of pool plant and equipment maintenance.
