Overview

Efficient purchasing of goods is essential for smooth operations in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry. This nationally recognised short course provides the practical skills and knowledge to determine purchasing requirements, source suppliers, and assess the quality of goods before making a purchase.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Determine purchasing needs by accessing and interpreting information, discussing end-product requirements, assessing and maximising stock on hand, and forecasting quantities.
  • Plan and budget by setting price limits using job costings, then create and prioritise purchase lists to meet organisational deadlines.
  • Source and review suppliers by complying with organisational procedures, confirming availability of supply to meet production requirements, communicating specifications, negotiating costs within the scope of your responsibility, and escalating complex issues when required.
  • Assess the supplier’s capacity to meet pricing and delivery needs, then select and purchase based on price, availability, and quality within your scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain accurate purchase records.

By completing this course, you’ll become a valuable contributor to your organisation’s supply process, ensuring goods meet quality, price, and delivery expectations. These skills are vital for operational roles where purchasing decisions impact efficiency and customer satisfaction.
